Stop Sharing Plain Spotify Links!
If you’ve ever landed a playlist placement, you know the routine:
Screenshot it, share a Story with a link to the list, pray that fans will scroll until they find your track.
The problem? Most people never make it to your song. They get distracted halfway through the playlist. The coffee is ready. Tommy steals Cindy's stuffed bear. The boss calls an emergency meeting.
Life takes over!
That’s where Spotify "deep links" come in.

What’s a Spotify Deep Link?
A deep link is a custom URL that takes listeners directly to your song inside a Spotify playlist.
Instead of sharing:
- Just your track (which looks self-promotional)
- Or the playlist link (where your song might be buried)
… you combine them. The result:
- Fans see your playlist win → credibility.
- Fans hear your track right away → more plays, saves, and potential followers.
- Spotify sees the activity → your song climbs higher in that playlist (and maybe into more).
One link. Double the power.
How to Build a Spotify Deep Link (Step-by-Step)
1. Grab your Spotify Track ID
- Go to your song in Spotify
- Three dots → Share → Copy Link
- Remove any extra tags after (and including) the ? in the URL
Example (when I follow this process for one of my own songs):
https://open.spotify.com/track/7zvQZSfvz7kREwo60agZHa
The bolded string above is my Track ID.
2. Grab the Spotify Playlist ID
- Same process: Go to the playlist in Spotify
- Three dots → Share → Copy Link
- Clean it up by removing any tags after (and including) the ? in the URL
Example (for one of my own playlist placements):
https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1G7rM8eOZl1Vl5fv5YB9JF
The bolded string above is a Playlist ID.
3. Combine them!
Copy the relevant track and playlist IDs for YOUR placement. Then...
Here's the formula:
https://open.spotify.com/track/
+ [Track ID]
+ [?context=spotify:playlist:]
+ [Playlist ID]
It should look something like this:
Don't post a dud link. Test before you share!
Click the link yourself. If it drops you right on your track inside the playlist, success.
How, when, and where Spotify deep links work
IMPORTANT: Deep links usually work best in the Spotify app (mobile or desktop). They don't work in browsers; but don't worry too much — because most people will be clicking on mobile.
If the link “breaks," or if the track is ever removed from the playlist, the listener still ends up on your song — so there’s no risk of them missing your music.
The deep link doesn't "expire."
Why This Works to Boost Your Track
Deep links only take a minute or two to build and test.
They help you turn a playlist flex into actionable promo — instead of just a dead-end humble brag.
Fans don’t have to hunt for your track, and every extra play, save, and share is a signal to Spotify that your song deserves more reach.
In other words: stop sharing plain Spotify links. Dress up your tracks with playlist context, and you’ll get more algorithmic love in return!
If you don't have any boast-worthy playlist placements, remember — you can always create your OWN playlists and use a deep link to get fans right to your priority track.
