How to Report Mismatches on Spotify
Am I dreaming? Pinch me!
Spotify finally fixed something that’s been broken for years: tracks showing up on the wrong artist profiles.
This has been one of the biggest headaches for musicians and their distributors.
Well, Spotify has announced that you can now report “content mismatches” before release day, giving them a chance to fix incorrect attributions before the track or album goes live. In the official announcement, Spotify acknowledged the frustration that many artists have expressed:
We’ve heard your feedback, and we know how unbelievably frustrating it is when music that’s not yours incorrectly appears on your artist profile…
Today, we’re sharing a first improvement to address the problem (with more to come!).
How to fix content mismatches on Spotify
You can now flag mismatched releases directly within Spotify for Artists:
- Open Spotify for Artists on your web browser
- Go to the Music tab
- Hit Upcoming
- Click the three dots next to your release
- Select “Report incorrect release”
- Add any extra information (the form will automatically include your release details)
- Hit Submit
- inform your label or distributor, because content mismatch problems often start early in the metadata chain and usually affect all streaming platforms (reporting to Spotify alone will only fix the issue on Spotify)
Why This Matters
For independent artists and small teams, a mismatched release can be more than a minor inconvenience — it can confuse listeners, hurt algorithmic performance, and delay release campaigns.
By allowing pre-release reporting, Spotify is finally giving artists a bit of control in a process that was previously out of their hands. The feature won’t solve every issue overnight — especially since mismatches originate with distributors and metadata errors — but it’s a promising move toward more transparency, accountability, and quicker corrections.
As Spotify put it, this is “a first improvement… with more to come.”
