Is "Original Audio" hurting your reach?

The 15-second fix too many musicians miss

There’s a mistake I see almost every day on Reels, Shorts, and TikTok—and yeah, I’ve done it too when I’m moving fast.

You post a video with your own song, and the platform labels it “Original Audio.

Sounds fine. It’s not.

That video is now disconnected from your official track.

No shared audio page. No stacking attention.

No easy way for someone to tap and find other videos that use the song.

Every post becomes its own little island. 🏝️😔

The fix takes about 15 seconds:

1. Upload like you normally do

2. Tap “Add Music” or “Add Sound"

3. Search for your official track (the one you distributed)

4. Attach it

Now the most important part...

5. If your video already has the song baked in, just drop the added track’s volume to zero (or as low as it goes)

Done! In less time than it took to read this article.

Seriously. Muting the "official" track. That's all it takes to have TikTok, Reels, and Shorts properly identify and credit the song in the video.

Now your post contributes to the song's momentum —so discovery and plays can build instead of scatter.

To be clear: In order for this to work, your song must be officially distributed to Meta, TikTok, and YouTube.
