Kendrick and Dylan to highlight great lyricists, getting words synced to audio using Musixmatch

Get your lyrics on Spotify & Instagram

You’ve poured your heart, wits, and maybe some questionable late-night snacks into crafting good lyrics. Now you want your fans online to SEE what you’re singing.

Damnit. It’s “LOVE.” Not “DOVE!”

To get your words synced with your tracks on Instagram, Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, YouTube, Snapchat, and more, you’ll need to use Musixmatch — the world’s biggest lyric database.

Lyrics = Fan Connection

People want to feel your words, and maybe even sing along.

And when YOU, the writer or artist, upload and sync the words yourself, you’ll be in control of the accuracy and timing of your lyrics on the most popular music platforms.

Here’s how:

1. Claim Your Artist Profile on Musixmatch

  • Go to Musixmatch Pro and create an account
  • Search for your artist name and claim your profile
  • Once approved, you’ll get access to the backend — the HQ for uploading lyrics and syncing words to audio

2. Upload Your Lyrics

  • From your account “roster,” select your artist name
  • Find a released song you want to upload lyrics for and click “Transcribe”
  • On the song page, choose the “Lyrics” tab and paste in the final, proofread version
  • Keep formatting clean. One line per vocal phrase. No emojis. No ALL CAPS. No interpretive haikus.

Want to get lyrics up before your song drops? Hang tight — I’ve got a section on that below.

3. Sync Your Lyrics Like You Care

Now it’s time to teach Musixmatch WHEN to display your lyrics in sync with the audio — either word-by-word or line-by-line — on Spotify, Apple Music, and Instagram. It makes you look pro and fans can go deeper with the song.

  • Hit the “Sync” table on the song
  • Use Musixmatch’s built-in syncing tool to time each lyric line with the vocal
  • Play, pause, and tap to align each line with its vocal moment. Don’t rush — this is worth the 10–15 minutes it takes.

You’re going to have to wait until the song is live to sync the lyrics — unless you’re paying for Musixmatch Pro. (details below 👇).

Bonus Option: Pre-Release Syncing via Musixmatch Pro

Want your synced lyrics to show up on Spotify the moment your track drops? You’ll need to upgrade to Musixmatch Pro, specifically the Grow tier or higher.

Here’s what that unlocks:

  • Upload your unreleased audio in advance (yes, even before it’s live on Spotify)
  • Add and sync your lyrics ahead of time using Musixmatch’s syncing tools
  • Submit for review and scheduling — when the song goes live, your synced lyrics do too

The Grow plan costs around $72/year. Not pocket change. But if you prioritize a seamless fan experience, it’s an okay investment. Otherwise just wait until release day and sync the lyrics then.

I mean, we used to walk into record stores and buy albums based on the song titles and cover art alone, having never heard a single note of the music. Your fans can probably deal with a little dose of lyrical mystery for a few days.

Oh, one other thing to know about lyrics — you can’t actually upload lyrics for songs that have featured artists UNLESS you pay for their Basic plan, which is about $20/year.

4. Double-Check!

Once your lyrics are synced:

  • Test them by playing your song on Spotify (mobile app) or Apple Music with the lyrics feature turned on.
  • Post a lyric snippet to Instagram Stories or Reels using the music sticker — the synced lyrics will animate live.

What Not to Do?

  • Don’t upload draft lyrics or placeholders
  • Don’t wait until release day to start this process
  • Don’t assume Musixmatch will do it for you. (They won’t.)

"Sounds like work!!!"

This is your career, your lyrics, your responsibility.

Is it tedious? Sure.

Is it worth it? Absolutely.

It shows you care. It locks in the official presentation of your wordsmithery. (An actual term? Spellcheck didn’t flag it!) And it opens up another way to consume your content on platforms that matter.

For a deep-dive into all these topics and more, the distributor Symphonic did a thorough workshop about Musixmatch Pro. Check it out here:
