15 emails to send your fans
Most musicians only send emails when they’ve got big news:
- New single!
- Merch drop!
- Gig details!
If that sounds familiar though, your fan list is probably gathering dust most of the year.
So whenever the “important” email does come… crickets.
But here’s something to remember:
Fans don’t want announcements.
They want connection. Little stories. Odd details. Reminders you’re human.
"Okay, but what to say? What to write? What to send?"
Well, you never have to ask that again! Because here are...
Email ideas to send your fans today:
1. The bad gig you laugh about now
Spilled beer on a pedal? Empty room except for a bartender and two drunks? Tell the story. Fans love a good disaster tale when it’s told in hindsight.
2. The weirdest thing in your gig bag
Finger puppets? Half-melted cough drops? A broken capo you swear still works? Take a pic and share.
3. A lyric you almost cut (and why)
That one line you debated for months — let fans peek into the messy part of your writing.
4. A demo vs. the final track
Drop the raw iPhone voice memo next to the polished master. Show the glow-up.
5. A collaborator spotlight
Every bandmate, co-writer, or guest guitarist has a story. Introduce them like they’re the star of the show.
6. The best food you’ve ever eaten after a gig
3am Waffle House? Or the tiny taco truck behind the venue? It was the taco truck. There's no way it isn't the tacos.
7. A hobby no one expects from you
Running barefoot on Legos? Restoring antique furniture? We love a surprise.
8. A holiday or seasonal tie-in
Send a Halloween playlist. Or a Krampus e-card (yes, I've sent a Krampus e-card). Make it fun and not the usual “Happy Holidays from the band.”
9. A Q&A with your fans
Pick three questions and answer them in your email. Actually, that could be three separate emails. Keep it casual, like a group chat.
10. A fan playlist exchange
Build one around a mood (“songs for rainy days”) and ask fans to send suggestions. Or let them choose the "house music" before your shows.
11. A story of failure — and what you learned
The audition you bombed. The show you canceled due to stage-fright. Tell the truth, but show the growth.
12. The strange inspiration behind a lyric
That overheard bus-stop argument? A Wikipedia rabbit hole about coal miners? Share the spark.
13. Your favorite piece of gear (that isn’t glamorous)
Not the Les Paul. The beat-up tuner pedal that’s been with you since high school. Give it some love.
14. A birthday or anniversary
Yours, a bandmate’s, a hero's, or even your album’s. Treat it like a reason to celebrate.
15. Why you keep making music (even when it’s hard)
Strip it down and be honest. That kind of vulnerability sticks with people more than another promo blast.
